BACKGROUND
As the City moves forward with the development of a new Public Works Department and Police
Department Campus, we have an opportunity to plan for the reuse of what will be the old Public Works
Campus. Over the past several months, various concept plans have been created and shared with the
Parks and Recreation Commission. Staff also asked stakeholders for their input. The Parks and
Recreation Commission toured the area to get a better feel of the site and the different spaces we are
working with.
Based on input that staff has received, an updated master plan was created which again identifies a
combined Central Park and former Public Works Campus. Staff feels the proposed changes to the area
will make the space more attractive to residents because of the wide variety of recreation
opportunities. This area is already home to the band shell/amphitheater, Central Park shelter,
playground, outdoor skating, splash pad, sun shelter, veteran’s memorials and walking trails. The
concept plans show expanded parking areas, additional trails, a new playground space, phase 2 of the
splash pad, reuse of a garage as a recreation facility and much more.
At the meeting on Monday, staff will provide a presentation on the design process and share some
potential plans for an expanded Central Park.
