Chairperson Pitzen called the meeting to order with Commissioners Amante, Born, Geller, Giray, Harvey, Jacob, Kebede, Knutson, Mason, Metzger, and Sell. Staff present included the following; Deputy Clerk Ostroviak & Mayor Weisensel Additions or Corrections to Agenda Motion by Pitzen Second by Knutson. Motion to Approve Agenda. Ayes: 13 Nays: 0 Agenda Approved. Audience Input None. Consent Agenda Motion by Pitzen Second by Harvey. Motion to Approve Consent Agenda Ayes: 13 Nays: 0 Consent Agenda Approved. a. Minutes of June 26, 2024 Youth Commission Meeting Old Business a. Discussion of Poll: Tours & Speakers for 2024-2025 Deputy Clerk Ostroviak presented the most popular tours from the poll; Fire Station, Public Works/PD Campus, 360 Communities. The speakers that Youth Commissioners showed the most interest in was the Fire Department, Public Works and Communications. Page 2 of 11 New Business a. Leadership Lesson Overview Mayor Weisensel engaged Commissioners in a discussion about someone in their life who is under 18 years of age, and shows Leadership. The traits of leaders discussed include good listening skills, being optimistic, kind, responsible, inspirational and articulate. b. Roundtable Discussion Mayor Weisensel engaged the Commissioners in a 2-part discussion. The first was related to what they have going on in their lives. The responses included college tours, sports, school beginning, marching band events and volunteer work. The second part was brainstorming what they and their peers would like to see relating to an empty gathering space. Commissioners answered with a coffee/café vibe with board games, couches, plants, warm lighting, electronic charging station, and food or snacks. They also showed an interest in a ping pong table, air hockey table, bean bag toss, laser tag and volleyball to stay active. c. Motion to Establish Youth Commission Instagram Committee Motion by Pitzen Second by Knutson Motion to Establish Youth Commission Instagram Committee Ayes: 13. Nays: None. Motion carried. BACKGROUND Our City Clerk, Erin Fasbender, will provide an overview of her role as City Clerk as it involves elections, record management, data requests, City Council Meetings, and Parliamentary Procedure. We will be working through a worksheet during our discussion that must be turned in at the end of the meeting please. RECOMMENDATION Commissioners must turn in their completed worksheet to Ms. Saunders, (Sarah). ATTACHMENTS: Youth Commission 2024-2025 Goals APPROVED BY: EEF RECOMMENDED ACTION: Review of Current Youth Commission Goals BACKGROUND Youth Commissioners will review and discuss their goals for 2024-2025 and determine if any modifications or additions need to be made. RECOMMENDATION If any revisions are suggested, a motion will need to be made. Page 7 of 11 Within the City Council Goals to Grow, Live and Manage Rosemount, the Youth Commission establish the following as their 2024-2025 goals GROW Increase Support for Youth-Related Activities, Facilities and Amenities •Support new and existing business work opportunities to gain experience •Promote Youth volunteerism to build leadership skills •Support additional recreational facilities •Support the development of neighborhood parks with added features LIVE Increase Youth Commission Community Presence and Connecting Partners •Maintain current and develop new partners and partnership events o City Council o Park and Recreation Dept o RAAC o School, Volunteer, and Non-Profit Organizations •Recommend support of youth-oriented initiatives to City Council MANAGE Increase Youth Events and Activities •Increase visibility and participation in community events o Leprechaun Days / Committee and City Council o Night to Unite / City Council o Holiday Tree Lighting / RAAC o Spring Senior Event o Arbor Day/Tree Legacy Planting o Splash Pad •Promote recruitment of eligible youth to the Youth Commission Page 8 of 11 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Youth Commission : September 25, 2024 AGENDA ITEM: Roundtable Discussion AGENDA SECTION: New Business PREPARED BY: Sarah Ostroviak, Deputy City Clerk AGENDA NO. 6.e.
